Yuqing Shi
Born in Beijing, China, Dr. Yuqing Shi started his piano study at age 6. At age 12, Shi won the first prize of Second Chinese Works Piano Competition in Hong Kong. Soon after this achievement, Shi was selected to study with the renowned piano pedagogue Zhaoyi Dan(但昭義) at Shenzhen Arts School. Months later, Shi won the first prize of The Eighth Xing Hai Cup National Teenager Piano Competition in Beijing. Studying together with elite pianists such as Yundi Li (李雲迪) and Haochen Zhang (張皓宸), Shi had gained significant improvements in piano performance. His other major awards include: Silver Prize of The Third Chopin International Piano Competition in Japan; First Prize of The Second Asian Youth Music Competition in Guangdong Division and The Fifth Place in Hong Kong Finals.
At age of 17, Shi was recommended to study with Ms. Eleanor Wong at Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts. After 7 years of intense and comprehensive music training in HKAPA, he was successfully admitted by one of the top 10 conservatories in United States -- University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) as the highest scholarship owner to pursue his Masters degree with Professor Eugene Prindonoff. After finishing his Master's degree, he attained his Doctoral degree in April, 2016.
During his study in CCM, he gained vast stage performance experiences both as soloist and collaborative pianist. In 2013, Shi won the 2nd Place of CCM’s annual piano concerto competition, playing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.5, “Emperor”. In 2015, Shi was selected as one of the finalists of CCM’s Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto Competition, playing the challenging Concerto No.3 in D Minor. As an active collaborative pianist, Dr. Shi has been invited to a number of chamber music festivals to serve as coach and faculty pianist. 5 years of foreign training has widened Dr. Shi’s vision about piano music. With a passion in every possibility of piano playing, Dr. Shi was also interested in American jazz piano music, choosing it as his cognate major. Off the stage, Dr. Shi also enjoys teaching and sharing music with various levels of students.
Bingjie Zhou
Born in Fuzhou, China, Dr. Bingjie Zhou started her piano training at age of 4. With the highest grade among almost 3,000 students, she got admitted by Fujian Normal University College of Music in 2007, studying piano performance and pedagogy with Professor Yizhe Hong. After graduation, Zhou earned her chance to pursue a master's degree with scholarship in the renowned University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music in 2011, studying with Professor James Tocco. After master’s degree, she successfully got admitted by CCM's Doctoral of Musical Arts degree program in 2013 and graduated in 2016.
In addition to her own performance, Dr. Zhou is also passionate about piano teaching. She chose Piano Pedagogy as her cognate major, studying with Dr. Michelle Conda, a renowned piano pedagogue. As a Graduate Assistant in Secondary Piano Department, Dr. Zhou enjoys teaching different levels of students, both in group and privately. She is an official member of Music Teachers National Association in United States, being active in numerous conferences and events.
The Duo
Bingjie and Yuqing both entered CCM as master students in piano performance in 2011. Since then they frequently collaborated as a duo, performing four-hand and two-piano repertoire.
The two pianists got married in 2013, both of whom looking forward to a shared musical career and spreading the beauty of music to more and more people.
